Minerals in Pakistan

A mineral is substance that is derived naturally through geological processes. Minerals derived from minings and other resources differ in composition from pure elements and simple salts to very complex silicates. Almost all types of minerals are produced by mining from the earth. The Materials recovered by mining include coal, bauxite, gold, silver, gold, diamonds, iron, lead, limestone, precious metals, nickel, phosphate, salt, rock, oil shale, nickel, tin uranium, lead and other metals and materials.

Since minerals can not be produced simply by applying the agricultural processes neither they can be produced artificially in a laboratory or factory that is why mining is required for producing minerals.

Not only minerals are derived from mining, also extensive amount of petroleum, natural gases and even water is extracted from mining. Minerals are derived from ground by applying two common techniques including surface mining and sub surface mining. Surface mining employs strip mining, placer mining, open pit mining, quarrying, and mountaintop removal. Minerals are also derived by sub surface mining which includes hard rock mining, barehole mining, slope mining, drift mining, shaft mining, hard rock mining and many other types.

Commonly produced minerals in Pakistan include gypsum, limestone, iron ore, copper, graphite, marble, chromites, salt, rock salt, gems, marble coal, sulphur, silica fire clay. Large amount of mineral reserves are produced in the Punjab province of Pakistan. Good amount of pure salt range is produced here. Balochistan province is also another mineral rich area and is rich producer of large amount of mineral, oil and gas reserves. The minerals produced here include copper, iron, chromite, zinc and antimony. gold minings are located in far west of Pakistan.

There are some important mining in Balochistan that produce good amount of copper. These copper reserves were discovered in early 2006. The Rekodiq mining area has some minings that produces about 2 billion tons of copper and 20 million ounces of gold. This discovery has made Rekodiq to come among the world's top seven copper reserves. The Rekodiq reserves produce about200, 000 tons of copper and 400,000 ounces of gold per year.

The North West frontier province of Pakistan also has some reserves that produce extensive amount of marble in Pakistan.
